II. Class Descriptions:
Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts Level One
and Two
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with and without a gi
Competition
Fitness
The Jeet Kune Do Classes are a unique
blend of various training methods as taught and developed
by Sijo Bruce Lee and Sifu
Dan Inosanto. These training methods involve learning
how to effectively and efficiently kick, punch, trap,
wrestle, sweep, throw, choke and lock. Training also
involves learning basic, intermediate and advanced level
theory and concepts. When these training methods, theories
and concepts are combined, they help the student develop
the ability to adapt to any situation on the street.

drill we train.
The JKD / FMA Level One Class emphasizes
on Jun Fan Kickboxing training. This training method
involves techniques, training methods and tactics from
Muay Thai, Savate, Western and Filipino Boxing, and
various other striking methodologies. While the kickboxing
in this class looks like "normal", the emphasis is very
different from traditional method. Stance, footwork,
body mechanics and attribute development, as well as
a jab, a cross, a swing, some hooks, uppercuts, elbows,
knees, slaps, bites, eye pokes, groin shots and throws
are combined into a hurricane of street fighting tactics
designed to overwhelm an attacker!
The JKD / FMA Level Two Class emphasizes
Jun Fan, Filipino, Chinese and Indonesian trapping methods.
This class is unique in that it blends "functional"
and "traditional" trapping methods. While the older
trapping methods are learned and explored, the newer
methods have beenexpanded upon. Body mechanics, movement,
coordination and sensitivity drills, as well as head
butts, elbows, knees, groin shots, eye gouges, and arm
wrenches are combined into various fight-ending combinations!
If you are not a believer in trapping, you haven't been
in front of Mr. Harris, or experienced his trapping
methods. You have to experience this for yourself!
The Filipino Martial Arts training
in the Jeet Kune Do classes combines the use of single
stick, double stick, stick and dagger, and single blade
training methods, with low line kicking, the efficient
and ovberwhelming use of elbows and knees, joint locking
and nerve hitting. We also train empty hand defense
against blunt and edged weapons. If you are serious
about learning how to defend yourself against a chain,
knife, a baseball bat or tire iron, this training method
is exactly what you are looking for!

defenses we train.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes (with
and without a gi) provide you with training in the following
areas: Mount, Side Mount, Guard, North and South, Knee
on Belly and Scarf Hold Escapes; Mount, Side Mount, Guard,
North and South, Knee on Belly and Scarf Hold Controls;
Straight and Bent Arm Locks (and their defenses); Straight
and Twisting Leg Locks (and their defenses); Collar, Bare-arm
and Leg Chokes (and their defenses), Throws and Takedowns
(and their defenses), The use of various training methods,
Tactics, Grip Fighting, and more! Additionally,
because there is so much emphasis on "competition"
(i.e. "tapping") at other schools in San Diego,
and because so many of the "older students"
from these other academies get hurt so frequently, we
at the Harris Academy have taken a different approach
to training! Because the average age of our students
is around 34 years of age, because we have several students
in their late 40's, middle 50's, early 60's, AND because
most of these students have families, careers and other
interests outside of their martial training, we actually
"GET IT!" What does all this
mean? Well, you'll find an entirely
different training environment (and attitude) at
our academy than at the other schools. This is not to
say these other schools are bad or wrong. Not at all.
I admire what they are doing with the next generation
of Jiu Jitsu fighters. All I'm saying is, "We're
different!", and "We cater more to
the MATURE Jiu Jitsu practitioner!"
